Life in a Day: Social Filmmaking and Social Promotion

This year at the Sundance film festival, a video will premiere that is actually a compilation of 1125 different videos submitted from individuals from around the world. Life in a Day captures the activities of each of these people over the course of a 24-hour period, specifically the 24-hours that made up July 24, 2010.

This film is not being distributed by any big-name studios, but instead will premier on YouTube on the same day as the film festival release. Although I don’t know the specifications of the YouTube release beyond opening day, the film clearly has potential to become a viral masterpiece. A piece completely created, promoted and dispersed through social media methods is inspiring.

Information accessibility, and the demand for lightening fast response rates increases daily, but in this case, the social media community flips that trend, and makes the world feel a little more accessible.
