NTEN Conference

It's been a busy week here at Small World Labs! After spending Friday through Tuesday at SXSW Interactive events, we're now in DC for the NTEN Conference. NTEN is a nonprofit technology network with the goal of  "helping nonprofits use all aspects of technology more effectively," and the belief that technology allows organizations and causes to have a greater social impact. And of course, we couldn't agree more!

Reducing Noise, Increasing Value

When I first joined Twitter in 2009, it was fairly easy to keep track of people, follow ongoing conversations throughout the day, and engage meaningfully. Oh have times changed. I by no means have a large number of follows/followers compared to many people, but unless I have Hootsuite open 24/7 (which is difficult to do, whether in a client meeting or yoga class) I find it difficult to interact as much as I would like.

An article in Mashable today talked about the positive buzz of Google versus Facebook in 2010. The numbers and graph are interesting and demonstrate that although Google still out-klouts Facebook, the gap is narrowing. However, the article caused me to think about a different question. If I had to choose one, Facebook or Google, which would it be?

This year at the Sundance film festival, a video will premiere that is actually a compilation of 1125 different videos submitted from individuals from around the world. Life in a Day captures the activities of each of these people over the course of a 24-hour period, specifically the 24-hours that made up July 24, 2010.
